Description

EPOS maintained, through successive contracts, an active and continuous participation, between 1981 and 2008, in the development of the mining infrastructure of Neves Corvo Mine.

Of the work carried out, we highlight the construction of:

Between 1981 and 1988 – Santa Bárbara Pit – extraction pit – with an excavated diameter of 5.50 m, 630 m deep, integrally concreted with a 20 cm thick wall.
Main Access Ramp from outside to the bottom of the mine, with a development of about 3.5 km, running cross section with 20 m2 and downward slope of 18%.
Crushing Chamber inside the mine, excavation of about 18 000 m3 of rock, accompanied by the definitive support composed of nails, shotcrete reinforced with malhasol and reinforced concrete. EPOS also carried out the complete installation of the crushing equipment.
Excavation of about 3 200 m3 of rock for the Loading Chamber of the “Skips”, its support, identical to that of the Crushing Chamber, and assembly of all equipment.
Opening of the Pumping Rooms, with approximately 5 000 m3 of excavation and, as in the previous ones, the execution of the support and assembly of the equipment.
Excavation of 4 Silo Wells attached to the Crushing Chamber, each with a height of 30 m, diameter of 5 m and reinforced with shotcrete and malhasol.
Recovery and consolidation of a ventilation shaft 400 m deep and 2.40 m in diameter.

Between 1989 and 1991, rolling galleries with cross sections varying between 12 and 25 m2, in a total of more than 6 km of development.
Between 1992 and 1996, construction of a 25% inclined plane 974 m long and with a 12 m2 cross-section, excavation of a crushing chamber, pumping rooms and various galleries, involving a total of 80,000 m3 of excavation.
In 1997, recovery of the CPV8 ventilation shaft, with a depth of 350 m and a diameter of 3.5 m.
In 1998, construction of a silo pit excavated inside the mine, at a depth of about 600 m. This well has a diameter of 5 metres and a height of 45 metres.
In 1999 and 2000, construction of Collector 830, construction of Silo nº 5, rehabilitation and reinforcement of several galleries and rehabilitation of the chimney CPV12.
In 2000 and 2001 the TP12 belt conveyor ramp was built and horizontal development work was carried out at various levels, in a total of 1240 m of galleries.

Between 2004 and 2005 the opening of new fronts, which amounted to about 1580 m of gallery and 925 m of ramp constructed.
Between 2006 and 2008, the construction of mining access infrastructure to new mining zones, namely Zambujal, Corvo Southeast, Graça Southwest and Lombador. Excavation of 21718 ml of underground galleries with 18 to 25 m2 cross-section and placement of 45866 m3 of shotcrete.

Since 2012, it has been dedicated to the drilling, loading, sustenance and transportation of slag resulting from the development.
